I won’t waste too much time on this blog post since Gizmodo has gotten more than enough attention for their recent stunt.
Here are my thoughts on the issue in no particular order:
If you are a AAPL stock holder, you should really be upset that Gizmodo didn’t do ‘the right thing’ and return the phone. Instead they chose to attempt to thwart an Apple release by releasing leaked information. It’s fun to read about rumors and see pictures of possible leaks, but when you knowingly have evidence that can really do damage, you’re crossing the line a bit. Can’t we just have fun and leave it at that?
Gizmodo will never be invited to a press event ever again.
I hope Jason Chen and the entire Gizmodo staff realizes that their actions have consequences outside of the bubble of their blog and Apple.
Gizmodo sure got lots of hits on their site but at what cost? I hope they save all that revenue to pay off the legal fees.
We’ll see how this all shakes out.

If you’re like me, you are probably a bit ignorant of the political and economic troubles in other countries. It stems from the fact that we have it pretty good here in the U.S.A. We have drive-thrus, clean drinking water, government bailouts. Life is [relatively] good here and many of us hardly take the time to enlighten ourself with current events. No I’m not talking about getting your news and latest hollywood gossip from TMZ.com. I’m talking the BIG picture. World news. Seriously though, we complain about traffic on the highway and flights being delayed, yet there are people in third-world countries dying of hunger.
Basically we need to shut fu*k up.
If you’re not like me then you probably have strong ties outside of the country. Perhaps you were born and raised outside of the US and still have family living overseas. You’re an immigrant and certain global affairs affect you directly because you’ve lived it before or you know people living it now.
I am totally guilty of not paying attention to news in other countries- which is totally a bad thing. Issues oversears can have a huge impact on our lives here in the US. As if I haven’t admitted enough of my ignorance, I constantly try to convince myself to broaden my world view by tuning into international news. The only problem is, when I happen to do this, it’s kinda like tuning into a movie half way through. The movie also happens to be really complex, with lots of characters, and a very deep plot. It’s also originally in a different language and the subtitles have undergone a decent-at-best translation. World issues are never simple and this problem quickly turns me off.
Just yesterday I made my browser’s homepage the nytimes world section. If I read the headlines at the very least, I can somewhat keep up.
So, what tips do you have for staying current? Favorite news sites? RSS Feeds? Books?
When I heard about the whole challenge between Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk) and CNN (@cnnbrk), I thought to myself:
Hmmmmmm?
It is undoubted that Twitter has become a phenomenal source for news and information. However, wherever there is news and information, there is someone making money. If it appears there is no one making money, then there are many people trying to make money.
While I applaud both CNN and Ashton for offering to donate $100,000 to the Malaria No More fund, I find it hard to believe in their motives and their cause when I barely heard why they are doing this. The media’s focus on ‘the first to reach 1 million’ was a bigger news story than the thousands of men, women, and children dying in Africa.
Personally, while I don’t want anyone in Africa to die, I could not participate in this completely narcissistic freak show. I unfollowed both CNN and Ashton shortly after I found out of their little feud.Remember 100k to these guys is like pocket change. They don’t care about the money. They probably care about people dying. They definitely care more about 1 million followers.
There is no reason why a massive news corporation should be sidetracked by fads and trends and put human interest in the passenger seat. I’m not saying the fashion and entertainment sections need to be axed, I’m just saying the focus needs to remain on the issues affecting our world and not ‘the first to reach 1 million’.
Why do we care .. ah uh um … ah …
I need one of those talking heads from CNN to answer this. You know one of those “analysts” or “experts” that know everything there is to know about any given subject. Anyways …
I’d like to know what would happen if the land the Israeli and the Palestinians are fighting over just disappeared. Kinda like the island in the last airing episode of Lost (see video below):
What would people fight about then?
